Another very sad news strikes the metal music world. Another young soul was lost.
Black Tusk’s bassist, Jonathan Athon, passed away at the age of 32 after a motorcycle accident in Savannah, GA this past Friday, November 7.
I did not know Jonathan nor the band Black Tusk before and it saddens me that Athon’s death is the reason that got me familiar with him and the band. I know the saying goes “better late than never,” but I think in this case at this very moment, the saying is false.
On Friday, November 7, 2014 Jonathan Athon and his girlfriend were driving on a motorcycle when they crashed into the side of a car that ran a stop sign. Black Tusk’s Facebook statement added that they had no chance to avoid the collision. Athon was immediately transferred to the hospital and was put into a medical inducted coma. In the following statement they confirmed that Jonathan Athon passed away in the morning due to serious brain damage. He suffered irreparable brain damage shortly after the accident. I don’t know how his girlfriend Emily is doing, but Saturday’s statement said that she is coherent and recovering in the hospital. We wish you a super fast recovery and sincere condolences to you, his family and friends.
May you rest in peace Jonathan Athon.
Take a moment or two and listen to some Black Tusk.
