If I Die Today – “Cursed” Album Feature And Interview

I personally am not really a hardcore head, meaning I am not tuning it in on a regular basis. However, from time to time I get super excited and play some hardcore stuff like Cancer Bats, Biohazard and such. A little while ago I got a chance to listen a brand new album, “Cursed,” from Italian quintet, If I Die Today. I lost count how many times I already played the album from start to finish because this piece is as solid as it can get. From start to finish, from opening song “Jesus” to ender “Cursed,” this album is a treat. If I would not have the info that If I Die Today band is from Italy, I’d say they are either from UK or USA. Leaning more to the USA part of this world. As I already mentioned, I am not a hardcore expert, so I can not go into extreme details, but when something is appealing to me, I am happy to share it with the world. And IIDT is a band that deserves extra shine and worldwide recognition. I’d be lying if I would say that If I Die Today is a band which made me start listening to hardcore. There is actually no band that made me start experimenting with the HC scene, but due to IIDT my upcoming weeks and potentially months will definitely be very HC oriented. Not that I am complaining, I am a firm believer that you always need to experiment, let it be with music or with life.
They are Marco Fresia (vocals), Antonio Aresu (guitar and backing vocals), Morgan Ferrua (bass and backing vocals), Michele Testa (guitar and backing vocals) and Davide Gallo (drums). Band was formed in 2007 and “Cursed” is their third studio album which will be released in October, 2015. It is a nine track album that features more than just hardcore and is showing If I Die Today in their true light. As they are open to a variety of music, so is “Cursed” an album where you will find pinches of other sub-genres like post-hardcore, thrash and maybe even some stoner. But hey, that’s what my ears hear, maybe you will get less or even more.
I also got a chance to get in touch with Morgan for a quick interview to find out a little more about the band and what they are up to and what the future is holding for them. Enjoy.

1. Who are you, where do you come from and who are band members?
Hello everybody! I’m Morgan (bass guitar and backing vocals) from the band If I Die Today. We come from Italy, Northwest area. We are a standard five piece band and we play some kind of non-standard R&R hardcore. Here are the members: Frez (vocals), Tony (guitar and backing vocals), Mike (guitar and backing vocals), Dudu (drums) and me.

2. How long are you together and how did you meet and come up with the idea about creating a band?
The band was born in 2007, from an idea of the original core (Frez, Tony and Dudu). All the members were yet playing in other bands, but there was the desire to create an superheavy band together, because of the great respect there was between all of them, as musicians and as friends. I knew them because I was part of the local scene too (I was a guitar player in a quite known deathcore band) and because I played for a while with Frez. When I had the chance to replace the old bass player, I didn’t refuse! Mike is the last entry, about three years ago, he is a well known personality in the Italian punk-rock scene. The magic between us is that we are exactly the dirty band personalities we would have had in a dream band.
3. Which are you biggest band influences?
To be honest, we listen to several tons of music! From the punk attitude to deathcore, mathcore, black metal and of course hardcore. In this particular moment we love to listen to Feed the Rhino, Cancer Bats, Every Time I Die and Converge.

Morgan of If I Die Today: “… maybe I’ll break my nose or Frez will destroy the stage.”

4. What can we expect from you in the second half of 2015?
It will be great! Our third full length album “Cursed” will be out soon worldwide via Sliptrick Records and we’ll start being on the road again around Europe and more. As you can imagine, we are a live band, so the most exciting part is to play on stage the new songs. Can’t wait!
5. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there?
We’ll have some warm up shows in Italy from June to August, in collaboration with This Is Core and Hellfire booking. We’ll share the stage with Dead Kennedys and The Dillinger Escape Plan. Why you should be at our show? You should be at our show because no one knows what is gonna happen, maybe I’ll break my nose or Frez will destroy the stage. Expect everything.

6. Where can we find more about you?
We are very active on FB profile ( or Instagram (@IFIDIETODAY_OFFICIAL) or Twitter (@IFIDIETODAYIIDT) too. Or you can find updates on

7. Any last words you’d like to add?
Special thanks to The Blek Goat staff and come see us on stage: I sweat you’ll get sweaty! Beers not included! Cheers!
